The IR transmitter is similar to a common TV remote except it has longer range (over 100 feet) and is higher speed. The high power IR emitter included in the dongle allows setting clocks from a great distance or high on a wall. The fast speed allows many configuration parameters to be sent to the clock in a few seconds.
The IR dongle may be used to easily and quickly re-synchronize the time on a system of wall clocks. For example, first obtain the correct network time on a lap top. Then plug the IR dongle into an available USB port and run the BRG control software provided. The IR dongle will begin immediately sending the correct time. Simply walk around the building and any specially configured BRG wall clocks will be immediately updated with the correct time. A green LED will flash on analog wall clocks to confirm time reception. Sending time updates to digital clocks requires firmware version 3.66 or later. Sending clock or timer commands to digital clocks requires firmware version 3.00 or later.
